Dear brethren, if you look for a life to come, of necessity it is that you exercise yourselves in the book of the Lord your God. Let no day slip or want some comfort received from the mouth of God.
In the arena
Knox wrote this on the eve of exile. He didn't know when he'd be back, and his parting charge was simple: read your Bible every day. Don't let a single day pass without it.
Open your Bible right now. Not a devotional, not a podcast, and not someone else's summary. Read one chapter of whatever book you're in. If you're not in anything, start with John. Read slowly enough that one verse stops you. When it does, sit with it. Let it speak. Knox told his friends to "let no day slip or want some comfort received from the mouth of God." That comfort doesn't come from skimming.
Psalm 119:105 calls God's word a lamp to your feet. It lights the next step, not the whole road. One chapter. Right now. Don't let the day slip.
